6 Essential Factors To Consider When Buying a New Laptop

Buying a new laptop is not a walk in the park because there is a wide range of laptops on the market, and if you don’t know how to choose, you can go wrong. The number of laptops on the market is so vast that this can make it challenging to select the one that best suits your personal needs.

We tried to simplify this process for those who are not tech-savvy by providing a set of criteria that everyone should consider before purchasing a new laptop!

1) Always Consider Size When Purchasing a New Laptop

Laptops range in size from 12″ to 17″. Therefore, it is essential to choose the ideal screen size: devices from 12″ to 14″ are usually very thin and light laptops, compared to other products on the market. However, it all depends on how you use it.

This includes EliteBooks and Ultrabooks. Traditional notebooks are around 15.6 inches and offer portability and power for those who need a standard device. A convertible device becomes a tablet when the keyboard is removed or folded. Some come with a touch screen. These features and functionality are available from nearly every brand, including Asus, Acer, Microsoft, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

2) RAM

Fortunately, RAM in a new laptop can be upgraded at any time. Keep in mind that most modern laptops have at least 4 GB of RAM. However, if you will be using heavier applications, you should consider purchasing a device with at least 8 or 16 GB of RAM.

3) Consider CPU and Processing Speed

Processing speed is also an essential factor when considering a replacement laptop. Most devices are powered by Intel Core CPUs such as the i3, i5, i7, and i9 series. Depending on your needs, you can look for an i3 series laptop, which is powerful enough to handle all your basic tasks.

But if you want to buy a tool that can do more in terms of performance, consider the i5 processor, which is found primarily in many high-end laptops. Another notebook with great potential is the Intel Core i7 CPU. This device is for those who want the best performance on a laptop. But if you aspire to excellence, the i9 is even more powerful than the i7.

4) Never Underestimate Storage

Another important consideration when purchasing a new laptop is its storage capacity. What happens when you run out of storage space on a device? With modern laptops, this is no longer a problem. Unfortunately, many notebooks used to employ hard disks. Instead, many of today’s devices are equipped with solid-state drives (SSDs).

SSDs are faster, which can improve the overall performance of the device. They can load data faster during system startup. So, if you are looking for a new laptop, consider an SSD-equipped device.

5) Keyboard Quality

Long hours of typing require a laptop with a comfortable keyboard. Ideally, the keyboard should have a good layout with standard-sized keys and space around the arrow keys. When released, the keys should have sufficient travel on downstrokes and be snappy and responsive. Cramming all the keys on the keyboard can reduce overall usability when looking for specific keys, such as the arrow keys or the delete key.

Make sure the keyboard is also backlit. This would make it easier to see what you are typing in dimly lit environments.

6) Other Points Not To Overlook

When looking for a new laptop, make sure to consider these factors as well:

  • The quality of the display.
  • Battery life.
  • A reliable brand.
